Blueberry Pickin’
Checking things off of our 2012 Summer Bucket List. We went blueberry picking at Blue Harvest Farms in Bush, LA. This is the second year that we have gone to this farm, and it is wonderful. Great fun with a great pay offs – buckets full of blueberries!
At the edge of the field is this sign. Big Sis wasn’t real thrilled about the warning. However, we did not see any of the listed creatures so she did okay
Grab a bucket and start pickin’
It took a while – the Man’s version of blueberry pickin’ is three for him (pops it into his mouth) and one for the bucket. We finally finished and 4 buckets later we were ready to go. It was a hot day – 91 degrees in the field at 10am. Lots of water and lots of memories
At home, we researched blueberry recipes. The blueberry pound cake was yummy but didn’t look very pretty. I will try that one again and, hopefully, get the consistency right so all the blueberries don’t sink to the bottom
The blueberry cobbler – success!!!! And easy! We love that. Grease the bottom of a 9X13 pan. Pour in blueberries. Mix yellow cake mix and one can of Sprite. Pour cake mix and Sprite of the blueberries. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. YUMMY!!!!!
We also got a new ice cream maker. We were telling the girls about the old “hand-crank” ice cream makers. They didn’t believe that someone had to sit there and turn the handle the entire time. Wish we could find an old one and make it the old fashion way! The electric ones are great (and I do prefer them), but I would love to make one batch that we had to turn by hand. We have only made vanilla ice cream but plan on trying to make some blueberry ice cream soon. The hot blueberry cobbler topped with ice cream was YUMMY!!!

Science Lab Fun (Guest post)
As a public school student, I really did not find science fun. I don’t even remember most of my elementary school classes. Or even my teachers. It was not memorable. However, when I got in high school I had one science teacher who changed all of my ideas about science. Mrs. Ayers – anatomy and physiology! We dissected lots of cool things.
Science should be hands-on. Not just read it in a book and regurgitate the information. So when we started home schooling I decided that science would be hands-on and interactive. If you aren’t a science geek, how do you make science fun for your kids. Jump on over to H.O.P.E Homeschool Consulting to read how science lab can be memorable and fun….
Summer 2012 Bucket List
Sitting around the dinner table! I love the times where we all sit down together. Conversations are always interesting. Sometimes I hear things about friends that I really wish I didn’t hear. Yet I am gratefully that the girls are willing to share things with us. Sometimes I wonder if these three silly girls weren’t suppose to be boys. The Man doesn’t help during these times. My favorite saying during these times – “I wish that I could get through one meal without a discussion about bodily functions
” Sometimes the giggling gets OUT OF CONTROL! Would I ever trade any of those moments? Absolutely not!
Last week during dinner, we created our Summer 2012 bucket list. Another opportunity to create great memories!!The only rule was that everyone had to agree on the item before it was put on the list. I was so thankful for that rule when bungee jumping and sky diving were mentioned
We might have to add things as we go, but for now this is our list. We have even marked a few items off already!

a life of gratitude (794-821)
Lord, break my heart for what breaks Yours. Words from a book that has always stuck in my mind. It is hard to pray that prayer. Yet, when You do you receive a “divine burden” and become ruined. These words resonated in my mind last night at our life group. Do I want to become “ruined” for the things of God? YES!!! ABSOLUTELY!!!
As He speaks and I listen, I move closer and closer to being ruined. Ruined for all things of this world. Through the process, I become blessed.
Through the process of writing the words that were my burden, I received a blessing of being obedient. The obedience proves to me that He wants action! Action in life - to make a difference for His kingdom.
As I become more ruined, I continue to count all the many blessings….

Summer Time Slow Down!
•In my life this week…
Well, once again, I feel like I have accomplished absolutely NOTHING this week. We are definitely in summertime mode in our home. Late nights, pool all day, sleeping in…..LOVE IT!!!!
I have not taken one picture this week. It’s not that we haven’t done anything. I just haven’t picked up the camera. Gotta do better!!!
I have worked on THE project. Website is almost complete. Click here to check it out. Prayer guide is available for download. Almost completed the printed version on Amazon and the Kindle version. Working on getting the affiliate information available. I pray that you and your family will join us in 30 Days of Prayer for Our Nation!!!
•In our homeschool this week…
Everyone completed their math for the year! We are going to do some worksheet and games on the computer to keep the information fresh in our brains. Little Sis is completely done with 4th grade. She is breezing through the summer already. Reading books for fun. Shhh…I’m not telling her that she is learning new things as she reads. It is just for fun
Big Sis and Middle Sis continue work on completing their science, Latin, and Bible curriculum. I am sitting back and letting them learn some time management skills. No schedule!! They will get done when they get done. Hopefully, we won’t be taking the school work to the beach in July.
•Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Picking blueberries at Blue Harvest Farms and to the Greek Festival!
•My favorite resource this week was…
For the past few years, I have made each girl a photo book that shows all the fun things that occurred from one birthday to the next. This year I decided to do a homeschool yearbook. It includes pages with individual pictures, activity pages, field trip pages, and a few pages at the end for autographs. I finished yearbook and placed the order this week – just in time to get 40% off the entire order. WooHoo!!!
I have always used Snapfish for projects like this. It is simple to use. They have some great backgrounds and photo layouts. You can have the computer make it for you or you can customize as much as you want. I customize
Plus they always have great deals!
